(11 Jul 2017) WORLD'S HIGHEST-PAID COUNTRY STAR IS GARTH BROOKS, ACCORDING TO FORBES
Garth Brooks is the world's highest-paid country music star, with earnings of $60 million in 2017, according to U.S. business magazine Forbes.
Most of the King of Country's income is from playing live: his comeback tour began in 2014 and is still going strong after 300 dates. Brooks often plays multiple arena shows in a single day.
Second on the list is Kenny Chesney, who raked in a total of $42.5 million. He fills stadiums around the U.S. and takes advantage of deals with brands from Apple to Corona, as well as his own rum, Blue Chair Bay.
Luke Bryan follows closely behind him with $42 million. He has high-grossing tours, plus Outdoor Channel reality show "Buck Commander," named after the company he co-owns with Willie Robertson of "Duck Dynasty."
Septuagenarian star Dolly Parton played 63 dates during the scoring period, grossing six figures per city. Her Dollywood theme park and publishing paychecks take her earnings to a healthy $37 million.
Tying for fifth place are Toby Keith and country pop duo Florida Georgia Line, who both scored $34.5 million.
The top ten country cash kings earned a total of $366 million this year, down from $393 million last year.
To come up with the list, Forbes evaluated touring numbers from Pollstar and record sales data from Nielsen, while performing independent research on outside business ventures and endorsement deals. Their estimates represent pretax income from June 1, 2016 through June 1, 2017; fees for managers, agents and lawyers are not deducted.
The top earners are as follows:
1. Garth Brooks, $60 million
2. Kenny Chesney, $42.5 million
3. Luke Bryan, $42 million
4. Dolly Parton, $37 million
5. Toby Keith, $34.5 million (tie)
5. Florida Georgia Line, $34.5 million (tie)
