(14 May 2020) TALKING ABOUT THE MUSICARES GUITAR AUCTION, LUKAS NELSON SHOWS PERSONAL GUITAR MISTAKENLY SIGNED BY HIS DAD, WILLIE NELSON
After signing guitars for a recent MusiCares benefit for COVID-19, Lukas Nelson showed how his favorite guitar was accidentally signed by one of his musical heroes, his father, Willie Nelson
The younger Nelson said he left his Gibson J-200 guitar on the couch of the Nelson tour bus, and his dad thought it was there to be signed for charity.
"I came back, and he had signed it. I thought that was just the greatest, because I would never go up to him and ask him to sign it. He's my dad. You know, it's kind of weird, but it was it's- it's amazing that I have his signature on my guitar because he thought it was for some auction somewhere just sitting on the couch," Nelson said.
The signed guitar is the one he usually takes to play on shows.
"He signed it and he didn't – he didn't know it was mine or anything, it was sitting on the couch. That's where before a show, they'll sit rows of guitars there for him to sign they bring in for auctions, for charities or whatever. So that's what he must have thought that's what it was for," Nelson explained.
The 31-year old Grammy-winning musician, who co-wrote many of the Songs for "A Star is Born" counts his father as one of his greatest inspirations.
"In terms of inspiration. There's no single greatest source, greater source than my dad. Although there are many sources of inspiration that I've taken and added to my sort of inspiration, my own inspiration. My father, Kris Kristofferson, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Tom Petty, The Beatles. The Rolling Stones. The Beach Boys," Nelson said.
While in quarantine, Nelson has worked on new music that he's been releasing on Instagram, which he calls his "Quarantunes."
