This is a revised version of the last video because I found better source material. I also changed one of the songs and added a bonus by Bob Wills from 1942. One of the best bands he ever had. I added "Drinkin' Them Long Necks" by Roy Head because it's great. I met him back in 1978. He answered the door in the nude... hard to forget that. I drove him to the show.
Here's the list with info.
1. Willie Nelson, Turn Me Loose and Let Me Swing. This is a fantastic recording that pays tribute to both the country and swing roots of this music. I found the CD online...Six Hours At Pedernales. But it only has two songs with Willie singing.
2. George Strait, Home in San Antone. This was first played in a Bob Wills movie. But before Tommy was to record it he enlisted in the Army. Danny Alguire a sideman sang this version. The band is hot. I added it to the end of this post.
3. Vern Gosdin - Tight As Twin Fiddles in A Bob Wills Band. This is one of those hidden gems from one of his albums. He didn't sing many of this type, but he sure does it well. Very clever lyrics.
4. Dean Dillon - Back in the Swing of Things. Love it.
5. Gene Watson - Ain't No Fun to Be Alone in San Antone. This is another gem from a otherwise slow album.
6. Roy Head - Drinkin' Them Long Necks. Rock & Roll star in 1965 goes country 10 years later. I don’t know the source of this album track. Check out his videos online.
