In the 1970's Ernie Ball offered a celluloid now known as "Sunburst" to any client wanting to make a a promo pick. Chief among them was the Johnny Cash pick seen in the top middle. Other notables are the Ernie Ball picks and Vox. Interestingly there does not seem to have been mass availability of this eye-popping material in use except among music stores and other individual small companies in the music industry. This points to the likelihood that it was just offered at NAMM, or by Ernie Ball company reps who may have visited mom an pop music stores to drum up business.
