This is a song Todd Snider wrote for his friend Eddie Shaver, the son of outlaw country songwriter Billy Joe Shaver. Eddie was a virtuoso guitar player, learning from Dickey Betts of the Allman Brothers Band and playing with country greats like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Guy Clark. Tragically, Eddie died of a heroin overdose at age 38 on 12/31/2000.
I pray Billy Joe and his son are together now.
