Toby Keith will take home one of country music's most prestigious songwriting awards next month when he receives the BMI Icon award. Only 14 songwriters have received this honor in all genres, including Vince Gill, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Loretta Lynn. . Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, and Paul Simon are a few of the other musical genres who have been honored. According to BMI, the award is given to exceptional songwriters in recognition of their unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers. The 2022 BMI Country Awards will take place on November 8 at the BMI office in Nashville. The awards for Country Songwriter, Song, and Publisher of the Year will also be presented that night, and it's not clear if Keith will be in attendance to accept that honor. He scanned his tour calendar for the rest of the year after revealing that he was receiving treatment for cancer. Last month, he pulled out of appearing on SabesWings' Strike Out Fundraiser in California.
