Thanks to Radney Foster, singer-songwriter, music producer, and author. Radney first came to renown in the 1980s with his duo Foster & Lloyd, which produced many hit singles on the country charts. His solo career kicked off with the album Del Rio, TX, 1959 in 1992. And as this episode was recorded, Radney was preparing to embark on a long tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of that iconic record. Radney’s songs have been covered by many recording artists of note, including The Chicks, Keith Urban, Brooks and Dunn, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Marc Broussard, Hootie & The Blowfish, Kenny Loggins, Los Lonely Boys, George Benson, and more. Not to be confined by songwriting, Radney is also an author; his book of short stories, For You to See the Stars (2017), is really good. Clearly, Radney Foster is not just a fine songwriter; he is a fine storyteller.

In this conversation, we talked about his youth in Texas, his move to and early days in Nashville, his musical and literary influences, the Del Rio, TX, 1959 30th anniversary tour, his short stories, what pisses him off, singing a song for Kris Kristofferson, what happens when we die, and much more.

It was an honor to chat with Radney Foster, an icon of Nashville songwriters.
