My rendition of "Thunder 'n' Lightnin'", written by singer/songwriter/actor, Hoyt Axton. I learned it from his album, "Thunder 'n' Lightnin', back in the mid-60s. The arrangement is kinda sorta the same as Hoyt's original but... well, a little different. I was never sure how to play Hoyt's guitar licks so I made up my own and inserted them between the lyrics. For this video I cobbled together some images to accompany the song.

Hoyt's mother, Mae Axton, cowrote "Heartbreak Hotel", the early hit for Elvis Presley. Many of Hoyt's songs became hits for several other artists ranging from Joan Baez to Ringo Starr, Linda Ronstadt, Tanya Tucker, Steppenwolf, John Denver, and others with songs such as "Never Been To Spain" (recorded by Three Dog Night, Elvis Presley, Waylon Jennings and others), "Joy to the World (a.k.a. "Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog", also recorded by Three Dog Night).

Hoyt appeared in many TV dramas including the western series, Bonanza. He also played the father of the kids in the movie, Gremlins. He cut over 2 dozen albums. His powerfully resonant baratone voice and unique vocal styling was instantly recognizable. IMDb lists 80 film credits for his music appearing in TV and Film soundtracks. Axton died way too young at the age of 61, October, 1999, after suffering two heart attacks in the short span of two weeks.
