“The Stairwell
Sessions”
presents Roger Brainard performing the original song “Davey Kuo” written by Greg Shaddix.

Notes from Roger: “This song was written by my good friend Greg Shaddix and it just shook me to the bones when I heard him perform it. He graciously gave me permission to perform and put my spin on it. I was honored to be invited by Carey Hood to film this episode of “The Stairwell Sessions.”

Lyrics:

I woke up this morning, with whiskey on my breath
Holdin’ on for dear life to my last cigarette
Wonderin’ what I did last night again
And I think I know how this story is gonna end

My daddy read the words in red
My momma cried and prayed over me
I never really cared, what the King James said
So I broke my branch off the family tree
And I wonder what in the world is gonna happen to me

So I pray the Lord my soul to keep
And I hope that I ain’t already out of reach
I’m losing a lot of friends along the way
I only need six to carry me to my grave
I hope I keep six to carry me to my grave
I pray the Lord my soul to take
Probably die before I wake
I lost another friend yesterday
I hope I keep six to carry me to my grave
I hope I keep six to carry me to my grave
