Isolation video #225 The Silver Tongued Devil and I by Kris Kristofferson recorded by Stephen Mendel on Nov. 1, 2020.
I think I heard "The Silver Tongued Devil and I" about five minutes after its release on Kris Kristofferson's second album of the same name. I've already done perhaps my favorite song of all time from that album and its single, Lovin' Her Was Easier (Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again) It seems pretty obvious to me that Siver Tongued Devil is a purely autobiographical song, Kristofferson was well known for his hard drinking and for his attractiveness to women who sought a longer-lived romantic relationship than did Kristofferson. His first self titled album had been critically praised but hadn't sold well perhaps because many of the tracks had already been recorded, some with considerable success, like Me and Bobby Mcgee for Janis Joplin, For The Good Times recorded by Bill Nash and Sunday Mornin' Coming Down for Ray Stevens. Silver Tongued Devil did much better commercially and helped cement Kristofferson's reputation as a performed as well as a songwriter.
