Every year at Easter, The East Coast Blues and Roots Festival (aka Bluesfest) is held at Tygarah, in Northern New South Wales. I have been every year since 2011 and I have had some of the best times of my life there, seen wondrous music and shared adventures with my kids that have made me richer and more rounded as a music fan and as a person.

Both Bluesfest and I have reached crucial points in our lives. Bluesfest because it can no longer afford, market itself as or perhaps even desires to be the experience it used to be. And I am at that point now that loss of capability that I fear was incipient last year has now become defining the way I experience the world.

It was, all in all, the most disappointing and ordinary Bluesfest ever (2016 was probably the best) - it had some shining moments, but they were mostly brief and the tedious, mundane and disrespectful of the fans experience predominated.
