Written by the English poet Alfred Noyes, "The Highwayman" was one of at least two high school English class poems that Phil Ochs would put to music, I believe w great success. . . . . . . The other: "The Bells" by Edgar Allan Poe. . . . . Ochs's version has nine verses and the original poem had 16 verses; that's why the story line can be a bit jumbled. . . . . I have also posted "The Bells," which includes slide show imagery . . . My version of "The Highwayman" here has a couple of small glitches.
