Made originally as part of a series for "new" directors in 1977 - more or less the first film I completed. I was invited by Udi Eichler to be one of six newcomers to make a film. This was inspired by a week's holiday I took with a 16mm camera during which I visited a Steam Fair in Yorkshire. This was where my career as a director finally got off the ground! Some years later Udi invited me to work with him and make Madness - a series with Jonathan Miller (also on this channel)
