An exhibit of work by the Florida Highwaymen at Sarasota town hall thru Feb. 2024.
In its heyday, the Highwaymen was a group of 25 Black & Brown men & one woman (Mary Ann Carroll), landscape painters who traveled Florida's highways painting & selling from the mid-1950s thru the 1980s. Started by Alfred Hair & Harold Newton, the prodigious group created approx. 200,000 paintings.
