Inside of France there were many execution devices which were used to take the lives of condemned people. The most famous was the guillotine, but the most brutal was the Breaking Wheel. But one very popular man who was executed on the wheel was Louis Mandrin, a highwayman who was seen as 'The French Robin Hood.' He would along with his gang of criminals attack French tax collectors who were hated across the nation and these were taking lots of money from the poor.

Mandrin continued to cause chaos, and he was then arrested under strange circumstances before he was then brought to trial and condemned. He was executed in front of a crowd of around 6,000 people on the breaking wheel and his ordeal was truly horrific.
