Sooner or later the criminal
will be brought to you.
The virtuous people in Korah’s
society advised him by saying:
“And be good ‘to others’
as Allah has been good to you.”
If you become rich, be good to the poor.
If you become strong, be good to the weak.
If you become a ruler, be good to the ruled.
If you become a master, be good to the servant.
If you have a cat or a dog, be good to them.
This is the meaning of the verse:
“and be good ‘to others’
as Allah has been good to you.”
Prophet Muhammad,
peace be upon him, says:
“He who dismounts from his riding beast
on a steep road is similar to freeing a slave.”
A steep road might be an ascending
or a muddy path where the riding beast
might sink or find it difficult to raise
its hands and hooves because of the mud.
If the road is rough or muddy or
there are stones on it or
it is an ascending road, it is inhumane
to continue mounting your riding beast.
If you don’t dismount your riding beast in such conditions, then there is no faith in you
because humaneness is a part of faith.
God says: “and be good ‘to others.’"
It means to God’s creatures and servants.
So, the advice which was given to Korah was:
“and be good ‘to others’ as Allah has been
good to you and seek not mischief in the land.”
If you have money, do not spread corruption or hurt others
or show off or show arrogance or tyrannize others.
Then the verse reads:
“for Allah loves not those who do mischief.”
Upon hearing that, Korah said: “This has been
given to me only because of knowledge I possess.”
Korah refused to acknowledge God’s favors upon him.
He didn't believe that it was God who has given him wealth.

Rather, he attributed his fortune to
his hard work and the sweat of his brow
as well as his own cleverness
and staying up working late at night.
In fact, God is able to make you
bankrupt in one second.
He is able to make you an insane person
dressed in shorts or even without underpants.
Thus, you will end up in a lunatic asylum.
Be heedful of God. Do not let God’s patience delude you.
If God grants you a respite,
don’t be deluded by that.
Once upon a time, there was a merchant
who was attacked by a highwayman,
who robbed him of all his money. Then the highway
man said to him: “I want to slaughter you.”
The merchant replied:
“You have already taken all my money.
What do you benefit if you kill me?”
The highwayman said. “If I set you
free, you will inform the government.”
The merchant begged him not to
slaughter him but in vain.
When the highwayman was about to kill him, two partridges came close to them.
The merchant said to the partridges:
“O you two partridges!
Bear witness that this oppressor
killed me unjustly and oppressively.”
The highwayman laughed and said to
the partridges: “Bear witness to that. Will you?”
Then, he drew his pistol
and shot the man dead.
Days had passed and the highwayman
became rich because, with the money
he stole, he built several buildings
in the city where he settled.
He became such an influential man
that the king invited him to dinner.
The dinner included a bowl
of bird meat with broth.
When the man saw it, he started
to make strange movements.
The king asked him:
“What’s wrong with you?”
The man replied: “Your Majesty!
What kind of meat is in the bowl?”
The king said: "It is meat of two partridges.
Someone gifted them to me.”
Upon hearing that, the man laughed loudly.
The king asked him: "Why are you laughing?"
The man answered: “I remember a story
which happened to me twenty years ago.”
The king asked: “What story?”
The man answered:
“I was a highwayman. I attacked a merchant
and when I was about to kill him, he said:
“Bear witness you two partridges
that this man would kill me.”
The killer went on to say: “I am laughing
how feeble-minded he was
now that the two partridges
have become broth.”
The king asked: “What did you do? Did you kill
the merchant and steal his money?”
The killer answered: “How could I be able
to build all those buildings then?
The king said to his servants:
“Take away the food from him.”
Then he started swearing at him and said:
“The two partridges bore witness
against you after twenty years.”
Shortly afterwards, the king ordered
his servants to bring the swordsman.
The swordsman came and chopped off
the highwayman’s head because the two
partridges bore witness against him.
