Welcome to Shanty-a-Day #384! We're the Harris Siblings and we love sea shanties - sing along from home with us and learn a new shanty every day while we're all stuck at home!

Heave Away Cheerily

The wind it is free and we're bound for sea.
Heave away cheerily, oh!
The lassies are waving to you and to me
As off to south’ard we go!

Sing, me lads, cheerily,
Heave, me lads, cheerily.
Heave away cheerily, ho-oh!
For the gold that we prize, and for sunnier skies,
Away to the south'ard we go.

They're crying, "Come back my dear sailor in blue,
For no one can fill the place vacant by you."

They love us for money, whoever he be,
But when it's all gone, we are shanghaied to sea.

The sailor is true to his Sal or his Sue,
As long as he's able to keep them in view.

We want sailors bold, who can work for their gold,
And stand a good dousing without catching cold.

We’ll heave her up, bullies, an’ run her away,
We’ll soon be a’headin’ out on a long lay!
