Happy Man in Black Monday!
Track: Ameritz Karaoke
Upon returning from the Air Force, Johnny Cash wrote this song all about the return to the South.
Breaking out into the business of your chosen art is never easy, and Johnny Cash had no luck with his initial audition for Sun records.
He and The Tennessee Two auditioned originally with “I Was There When it Happened,” a classic gospel tune. Sam Phillips immediately shot down the song, telling the three men that gospel music didn’t sell. He wanted something fast paced, something new, more importantly, he wanted to hear some of Johnny’s own material. The next day, this song was recorded and the world was introduced to Johnny Cash.
