The new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is the successor to the 411cc iteration of the motorcycle. It’s not an updated offering but a brand-new motorcycle that has been developed from the ground up. The new chassis, modern engine, and contemporary features now make it a more worthy contender to the likes of the KTM 390 Adventure and Triumph Scrambler 400 X.

Underneath the new bodywork is an all-new 450cc engine. This is the first engine from Royal Enfield with liquid cooling and offers 40bhp and 40Nm. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch as standard. Other features include a colour TFT screen with Google Maps and Bluetooth connectivity. Moreover, it also gets switchable ABS and ride-by-wire throttle.


The Himalayan 450 weighs 196kg; a few kgs lighter than the 411 while the fuel tank capacity is increased to 17 litres. Talking about dimensions, the standard seat height of this ADV is 825mm but it can be decreased and increased significantly. Further, the ground clearance and wheelbase stand at 230mm and 1,510mm, respectively. As for the cycle parts, the Himalayan 450 rides on a 21-17-inch spoke wheel combination that is suspended Showa USD forks and a monoshock while braking is handled by a single disc at both ends.

Triumph Scrambler 400 X is a bike available in only 1 variant and 3 colours. The Triumph Scrambler 400 X is powered by 398.15cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 39.5 bhp and a torque of 37.5 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Triumph Scrambler 400 X comes up with anti-locking braking system. This Scrambler 400 X bike weighs 185 kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 13 liters.

The Scrambler 400X is Triumph's most affordable scrambler in line up. There are two more – the Scrambler 900 and the Scrambler 1200- both of these bikes are sold in India.

The Scrambler 400X sits above the Speed 400, a modern retro motorcycle. These bikes are built around the same chassis and have the same engine. But the Scrambler 400X gets some different cycle parts to suit the bike's scrambler nature.

The Scrambler 400X has more rugged design elements, making it look off-road-ready. It gets a headlight protector, radiator, sump guards, and hand guards. The bike also has a handlebar brace and a longer front mudguard.

The brakes on the Scrambler 400X are slightly different from the ones on the Speed 400. The front brake disc is bigger at 320mm, whereas the rear gets a 230mm disc. Dual-channel ABS is standard, but Scrambler can switch off the rear ABS.

Regarding features, the Scrambler 400X gets a ride-by-wire, switchable traction control system, LED lights throughout and a part digital-analogue instrument cluster. This cluster shows ride data like fuel, gear indicator and two odometers. There's a C-type charging port that comes as standard.
