This is the final song for this first "Hidden Hollow" EP. For those of you that don't know what that means, "Hidden Hollow" is the name of my monthly newsletter, where I include all these one-off recordings that I've been making, as well as share lots of book, art and media recommendations. You can sign up for the newsletter here, if that sounds interesting to you: www.hiddehollow.online
And to be totally clear, none of these tracks are related to my new album. That is a much larger project, which will begin this year. I'll make a video explaining it all, because I never do anything simple and the record has spiraled into a 30 song multi-media project. Ha.
As for this track, this one is a throwback of sorts. It's a riff on another song of mine (guess which?). The chord/picking pattern was originally something for the Family Tree project, but I never used it. The chords popped up out of the blue last month, so I just rolled with them, started tracking, and this is where I wound up. This whole "Hidden Hollow" series has been about not overthinking anything very much and finishing songs quickly. To be honest, I prefer overthinking -- I love details -- but I have appreciated the change of pace.
Side note: I plan to do a short "Missing Film" EP for the space between this EP and my next record, so the next batch of songs will likely be instrumentals that anyone can use.
Lyrics:
Stopped time, the time has stopped
And all the earth stands still
All our plans are just feathers in the breeze
I fall asleep in the backseat of your old car
Outside the gods fall to their knees
When I said I'd live a life that was a different one
I meant a different one
Not always picking up the pieces of a former one
I thought I'd find a different world under a different sun
But there's no different sun
Yeah, there is only one
So now I sit in silence as it warms my skin
And I don't need to plan
Or even know where we are
Because it's all the same sun
I'm looking out the window at a different road
Is it a different road?
If I always take it with me and don't let it go?
I need to let it go
Until I let it go it makes every road I travel down the same
This might all feel like we're stumbling in the dark
But it's all under the same sun
