Peter Cooper, who has built a dual career as one of country music’s foremost journalists and a respected, Grammy-nominated musician himself, has died. Nashville’s Tennessee According to newspaper reports, Cooper died Tuesday (December 6) in Nashville after sustainaing a head injury in a fall.
Born in South Carolina, Cooper moved to Nashville in 2000, where he landed a high-profile gig as a music journalist for the Tennessee, a job that earned him recognition as one of the most influential voices in country music journalism. Cooper was both a country music historian and a writer, and he brought an impressive knowledge of the genre to his writing that distinguished him and garnered fans that included Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and Hank Williams Jr. among others. Cooper was also well known in the Nashville country music community as a mentor figure to a large number of new and emerging writers and musicians.
