The group "Pell Mell" was formed in 1971 in Marburg. Their hometown gave the title to their debut album, recorded in 1972 at Dierks Studio (produced by Peter Hauke). The album contained symphonic rock comparable to Nice and especially Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Like them, Pell Mell often borrowed classical themes. The band's sound is characterized by a colorful Hammond organ, violin (played with great virtuosity by Thomas Schmitt), Mellotron, flute and guitar. They sing in English.
