“On The Dope Again” is the first release by the new country music label Nashville Red (http://nashvillered.com/). Although, in the future Nashville Red will be focusing on more serious music, starting on a humorous note is a light-hearted way of throwing its hat in the Nashville music arena.

"On the Dope Again," is a parody song and video of Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" that relates to the country music legend's well-known love of cannabis.

In the tradition of great musical comedians like Ray Stevens, Cledus T. Judd and "Weird Al" Yankovic, "On the Dope Again" uses playful humor to make a statement. Here the video uniquely provides documentation and commentary on Willie’s history with marijuana and marijuana in general. The main character, who goes by “Bobby Nashville,” plays his guitar “Tricker” after Willie’s famous guitar “Trigger.” During a homage break to Willie, Bobby’s alter ego takes over as Willie Nelson himself.

The video also features a wacky cast of characters who provide narration in their own personal style, including Steve Stoner, B.C. O’Cannabis and Just Bud. An animated Willie is present throughout the video: smoking dope with his friends in his cabin, cruising across the screen on a skateboard, golfing on the moon, puttering down the highway in a VW bus with his "band of hippies," and after falling into his favorite jar of the green herb, a joint is rolled up and smoked with him in it.

There's even a scene where Willie is smoking pot on the White House roof, apparently captured via security camera. In short, the song and video are a lighthearted nudge at a musician who has endeared himself to fans young and old, and whose influence has spread beyond just the country music genre.

“Along with providing an entertaining parody of Willie and “On the Road Again” I wanted to put a lot of deep meaning and detail into the video so that each time someone views it they see something new,” claims director Robert MacDonald.

Indeed, the country genre has always had a home outback to some of the most progressive voices in music, and Nashville Red intends to nurture that innovative, counter-cultural spirit.

Robert MacDonald, the founder of Nashville Red, says his company is on a mission to progress country music to its rightful place within popular culture. "We want to inspire people again, to help country music artists take a strong note for three minutes at a time.

We have a strong vision that extends beyond just the world of music. After all, 'country' is a state of mind, and we want to be a source for some of the best this entertainment genre has to offer."

"On the Dope Again" is only the first of many exciting projects on the table for Nashville Red. Along with more songs and videos, a combination short Western/Music video is in post-production for an early Summer release. The company has plans to make 2018 a great year for cutting-edge country entertainment.
