Track 1 from his live album that’s Volume 03 of Young’s “Archives Performance Series” released in 2007. The recording is from a performance that took place January 19, 1971 at Toronto’s Massey Hall as part of his “Journey through the Past Solo Tour.” The majority of the songs played were unfamiliar to the audience at the time as they were newly written. Most of them would appear on “Harvest,” which was released a year later, and the rest would be included on his later albums from the ’70’s. It was the first year he hadn’t created a new studio album since 1965 and his producer David Briggs was adamant that they should use the recording of this performance to release a live album. However, Young was excited about the new material he had written for “Harvest” and wanted it released first. The recording sessions for it began shortly after this performance. In hindsight, he’s acknowledged that a live album would have been a good fit and he should have agreed with his producer. The album received excellent retrospective reviews. Thirty-six years after it was recorded, it reached the Top 10 in six countries, including No. 1 in Canada, No. 6 on the Billboard 200 album chart and No. 2 on the Billboard Top Rock albums chart. Written by Neil Young and produced by David Briggs and Neil Young. RIP David Briggs. Featuring:
Neil Young – Lead vocals, acoustic guitar & piano
When the dream came
I held my breath with my eyes closed
I went insane
Like a smoke ring day when the wind blows
Now I won't be back till later on
If I do come back at all
But you know me and I miss you now
In a strange game
I saw myself as you knew me
When the change came
And you had a chance to see through me
Though the other side is just the same
You can tell my dream is real
Because I love you, can you see me now?
Though we rush ahead to save our time
We are only what we feel
And I love you, can you feel it now?
Can you feel it now?
Can you feel it now?
Can you feed it now?
Can you feed it now?
Can you?
