Behind The Song - 146 - Skip A Beat

Bio
Named 'Vocalist of the Year' at the Vancouver Island Music Awards and nominated for 'Best Live Act' for 2 years consecutively, Brodie Dawson is a force to be reckoned with. It’s her voice that jumps out at you…as soon as she sings her first note you're hooked. It's rich and riveting, pure and powerful, and full of soul. You’ll find yourself in whether or not you wanted to be - and you might as well not look back, and just hold on for the ride... Finishing 2019 on a high note, Brodie recorded her 3rd album - this time at the infamous OmniSound Studios in Nashville. It was produced by musician and singer-songwriter Patrick Davis who has written songs for Jimmy Buffett, Lady Antebellum, toured with Hootie & the Blowfish, Vince Gill, and collaborated with Jewel, Guy Clark and many others.  The record was crafted with heavy hitting players - Tim Lauer as band leader and on keys (Executive Music Producer for the TV show ‘Nashville’), Bryan Sutton on guitar and mandolin (toured with Dixie Chicks, Jerry Douglas, Bela Fleck and more), Fred Eltringham (ACM drummer of the year and Sheryl Crow’s drummer!), Tony Lucido (ACM bass player of the year, played with Ingrid Michaelson, Blake Shelton and more ), Justin Schipper on pedal steel (played with Chris Stapleton, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Gibbons and more), Kris Donegan on electric guitar (played with Mary Gauthier, Kim Richey, Shania Twain and more), and Kristen Rogers on background vocals (toured with Hozier, bgv’s for Rival Sons, Lori McKenna, Kid Rock and many more). After the great redirect of 2020, this long-awaited album is destined to be released this Spring, with the first single 'Skip a Beat' dropping Oct 1st 2021! Brodie Lee Dawson was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada - ‘The Hammer’ and grew up in an environment that would prove to be her life’s classroom. Her father Brent J. Dawson, was at the heart of the city's flourishing music scene. He was a soulful vocalist and harmonica player in the Rock n Roll band ‘The Breeze’, and Brodie grew up with guitars, speakers, amps and a drum kit set up in the basement, evening rehearsals, backyard jams, and her dad’s legendary record collection spinning non-stop. Music Music Music. She absorbed it all and began to develop her own sound. Her style reflects a true love story between life and music that is constantly evolving, and it awakens and stirs up deep emotion for those who receive it. She has shared the stage with many talented musicians such as Rick Fines, The Sojourners, George Canyon, Kira Isabella, Jake Owen, and Serena Ryder!  Her songs can be heard on 98.9 Jet FM, 97.3 The Eagle, and CBC Radio, and she has had the pleasure of being a musical guest on CBC’s The Vinyl Café with Stuart McLean. She has played Sunfest Country Music Festival twice, Filberg Festival in Comox, Mission Folk Festival, Yellowknife's 'Folk on the Rocks, and Serenity's Harvest Music Festival on Birch Island, among many west coast tours with her previous female trio She Could Be Trouble, who were nominated for ‘Group of the Year’ at both the Vancouver Island Music Fest as well as BC Country Music Association, and in that same year, they were also nominated for the BCCMA ‘Ray McAuley Horizon Award’, a prestigious industry 'nod' to promising artists. Brodie calls her style a mix of 'soulful bluesy folk' with a gospel funk, a twist of pop and a twang of old-school country. True to all those genres she sings of life, love, searching and finding your way.  And finding her way, she has…  She's been turning heads and creating a buzz wherever she goes, leaving her audiences spellbound, full-hearted and smilin'.
