When most of us travel, we’re either hopping in the car or taking to the skies in an airplane. Both forms of transportation have been helping mankind get from point A to point B for a long time and the technologies that power them are only getting better. But trains are often the unsung heroes of both industry and transportation, with infrastructure and tracks spanning hundreds of thousands of miles all over the world. And while you can certainly find exciting high-speed and even higher-tech bullet trains and rails in places like Japan, there are still plenty of railways and trains operating both on more archaic technology and across far riskier terrain. There are plenty of railways that just barely make it through narrow passes and even brave bridges after a nasty monsoon substantially raises the water levels. And while the newer railways may be cooler, it’s these tough-as-nails railways that really get the blood pumping.
