Written by Kris Kristofferson and first recorded by Roger Miller, Me And Bobby McGee was made a huge hit by Janis Joplin, released after her death in 1970. It hit number one in 1971. The writing credit was shared by Fred Foster, founder of Monument Studios. The title character was suggested by Barbara (Bobbie) McKee, Monument’s studio secretary and was written as a challenge between Kristofferson and Foster.
