When my kid brother, Lanny, and I were still young our musical tastes diverged. I liked all kinds of music but especially classic rock, as it has come to be branded; he insisted there were only two kinds of music: "country and western."
We found common cause, however, in the songs of Kris Kristofferson. After his album "The Silver-Tongued Devil and I" came out, on a handful of occasions for the first time since we sang together in the Methodist church choir, my brother and I harmonized as only siblings can.
My brother's favorite was "When I Loved Her," an achingly beautiful song about love lost. Mine was this one, "Lovin' Her Was Easier."
