Fingerpick I Walk the Line written by the Great Johnny Cash.

Thank you for stopping by and watching this video. The Intro to this song - familiar all over the world- inspired many many musicians as well. This Johnny Cash song helped inspire an entire lifetime of amazing singin' pickin' and songs written by an amazing talent!!!

The Intro melody is plucked on the bass strings with our thumb.
we will start with learning the single string melody while forming chords first.

Then we will focus in more on just the melody (without playing the chords).

Next we will introduce not one, but two different ways to play the fingerpicking walk the line intro.... using a 2 fingered method (double thumb I call it), and a 3 fingered version.
Both ways have their own set of difficulties- you are encouraged to go slow, and get that down first before you move ahead.

No matter which pattern you want to use. I play it the Merle Travis method with just the 2 fingers. It's a real hillbilly way to play but Merle sounded like he had 8 fingers on his right hand! So technically the Travis Style is this 2 fingered method. Three fingered method definitely conserves a lot of energy and has a distinctively different sound than the 2 fingered method. This is primarily due to the extra double thumb pickin' (that's picking, plucking, hitting the string,) and the power that it brings to the song.

Next week" if the good Lord is willin' and the creek don't rise, we're gonna work on learning I walk the line for the guitar with singing..

Everything on the website is free to my students so, I hope you will continue!!
Happy Pickin' ,,!! bob
