This is the unedited version of KFAT 94.5 radio in Gilroy, CA recorded live off the air to cassette tape in 1978, from the point where I pressed the record button. This one includes the 13 dirty minutes at the beginning which I edited out of the edited version on my main account. Since it wouldn't let me upload this one - YT said it's a duplicate - I had to upload this one to my alt account. A 13 minute difference doesn't mean a duplicate in my book. Also, a non-PC language warning - the first track about the "buffet flats" - that was the language they used at the time in the Harlem sexual "speakeasies" at the time, and the recording/interview I guess would be from the 1930's.

Original description from clean version:

This is from a cassette tape I recorded off the air when I lived in South San Francisco, CA aka "South City" in 1978. Two stations I would listen to, this one KFAT 94.5 in Gilroy, CA, maybe 50 miles south of where I lived. Wasn't a strong signal, but picked it up fairly well on my Pioneer receiver in my second floor apartment. The DJ, Sister Tonya, doesn't speak until 42:10 into this recording, and will mention what was played and what I cut out. She speaks again at 49:15, and she gives the station ID at 49:55. I think the format would be called Americana today, but they were all over the place, alt country, folk, rock, blues, comedy segments. Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffett, I think some Marshall Tucker in there, some obscure stuff as well.

Gilroy is known as the garlic capital of the world, and they also just had the tragic shooting at the annual garlic festival.

I wanted to attend the garlic festival when I lived in CA, but having no wheels at the time, so would have been a futile affair trying getting there on public transit.

The other station I would listen to was KOME 98.5 from San Jose, good strong signal. Pretty much Album Oriented Rock, much like what WMMS was doing in Cleveland at the time, but I think they pushed the envelope more and got in trouble with the FCC more than due to naughty language. The call letters was just the tip of the iceberg, station liners such as "Wake up with KOME in your ear", and "Don't touch that dial, it has KOME on it". FYI, radio stations west of the Mississippi river start with K instead of W. Then you had shock DJ's like the late great (RIP) Dennis Erectus in the evening, and he'd get pretty bawdy.

This is what's called an "unscoped" aircheck, recorded as is, all songs intact. (vs. scoped which would only be the beginning and ending of each song, usually done to save time and/or for copyright reasons, but I felt some of this is so obscure to leave it intact)
