Sun Studios was founded in 1950 by Sam Phillips in Memphis, Tennessee. Later Sam opened his own record company under Sun Records.
The studio and Sam are credited for discovering artists like all the ones mentioned in the song.

The studio is also believed to have been the birth place of Rock n' Roll. The song "Rocket 88" written by Ike Turner and performed by Jackie Brenston and his Delta Cats, is believed to have been the first rock song and it was recorded by Sam!

Elvis was Sun's biggest star but due to financial difficulties Sam had to sell Elvis' contract, therefore losing him as an artist.

At a later date Elvis came back into the studio for a jam session with Johnny, Jerry and Carl. This is known as the "million dollar quartet". Sam secretly recorded the jam session, but it was not released until years later.

From Great Balls of Fire to Blue Suede Shoes (which was originally by Carl Perkins) the studio has been home to some of the greatest artists of all time.

I have always been inspired by Johnny and his history. The studio to me is iconic and it helped shape the evolution of music. You can still visit the studio today and see the place history was made!

Unfortunately almost all of the people mentioned in the video have passed on with the exception or Jerry Lee Lewis. This is a tribute to them all.

Lyrics:

(V.1)
Everyone has heroes
Some wear capes
but mine played guitar and sang until his grave
Sun Records was the place to be
I wish I could have been there
Making music, making history
without a care

(V.2)
JR was one of four and in the class of 55
A million dollar quarter only one is still alive
music had an influence from day to day
and I’d give anything have them play to me

(Chorus)
Oh If I had been alive in 1955 back when all the icons were still alive Would I have fallen in love
or would I thank the gods above
That I was witnessing a miracle The world would be proud of
If I had got the chance to play guitar with him
See Elvis in the breeze or Jerry play those keys
See Roy in his glasses
See Carl play to the masses
Would Sam like me, would he wanna sign me?
If I had been alive, in Johnny Cash’s time.

(V.3)
The love of his life, a mother and wife
June showed him the light
so he could play one more night
From Folsom prison blues he inspired tattoos
He walked the line through a ring of fire and still managed to shine

(Bridge)
Could I have helped them through their struggles
And made them see
The people that they influenced, people like me
I’d give anything to know what it was like to be in their presence
I bet they had no idea they’d reach people like me
