On this day in 2003, Johnny Cash passed away at 71 due to complications from diabetes, only 4 months after the passing of the love of his life June Carter.
Rick Ruben, his producer, said when June died he was torn up and Johnny told him "you have to keep me working because I will die if I don't have something to do"
They went on to record and complete 60 songs together during those short four months. Some of the most haunting and powerful music of his career.
