http://www.postercentral.com NOW UPDATED with two new, rare examples of this poster!

Not just an extremely early Johnny Cash window card, but the earliest one known to collectors for the Man In Black, period… from the winter of 1955-56.

Cash is the fifth-billed act on the poster, but the four musicians above him were actually two acts stretched out into four names to look more substantial.

This Johnny Cash Trio window card was manufactured by Hatch Showprint out of Nashville, TN and measures the standard 14 by 22 inches.

It was quarter-folded down to fit in a file cabinet back in the day, so the folds are permanent, but since they’re mostly in the white area, they don’t affect its appearance at all.

Hatch used red, white & blue in printing their Johnny Cash Trio placard, probably the most common color scheme of the day. All of the musicians are in red, as is the venue info; “WSM Grand Ole Opry” gets highlighted in blue.

Above Johnny, Ferlin Huskey and Simon Crum were actually the same person, and Kathy Copas was the daughter of Cowboy Copas and sang with him, so Cash was actually the third-billed act – but still at the bottom of the bill.

This Johnny Cash Trio in-person poster advertised a show in Valdosta, Georgia at the Live Stock Auditorium. The date given on there was Tuesday March 13, without the year given, but it was 1956.

There was no reason to give the year because the poster was probably printed in February and thrown away in mid-March, so who needed to specify the year?

This Johnny Cash Trio billboard is happily shown to you today by music historian Pete Howard of California’s central coast. Yes that would be me, and I can be contacted thru either (805)-540.0020 or by writing to pete@postercentral.com.
