Happy 92nd birthday, Johnny Cash.
Outtakes, likely from middle May of 1993. Billy Gibbons (of ZZ Top) was pitching Cash some songs for the album that would become "American Recordings" in 1994. They were hanging out in Los Angels, California, with Rick Rubin. A more famous version of this was released with Gibbons playing an electric guitar, but here we find Cash relying on his acoustic and practicing the song before giving it a full take.
