Johnny Cash - Get Rhythm
(written by Cash)
Released on Sun 241 in 1956
Recorded at the legendary Sun studio by Sam Phillips in Memphis, Tennessee
Flipside to "I walk the line"
Upbeat, rhythmic and unusually fast country bopper which was probably the closest Cash ever got to the sound of classic Sun rockabilly. The song being about a shoe shine boy who tells a man the secrets of getting over the blues, even in a situation like he's in. Featuring a "train-like" rhythm played by Cash's acoustic guitar, on which he put a piece of paper under the fretboard to dampen the sound, as well as a very active lead guitar pattern played by Luther Perkins.
While this song didn't nearly reach the popularity of the flipside, it still charted and sold well. This kind of music Cash rarely did after this number, that's why it's a standout number for sure. Very overlooked one by many Cash fans!
Monarch press of this dense, loud cut shellac 78 with the two different label designs on each side. Played back on my German Perpetuum Ebner PE 2001 record changer using its 3 mil stylus.
