Johnny Cash banned from the Grand Ole Opry after Furious On Stage Rampage

When Johnny Cash passed away in 2003 at age 71, he was regarded as a trailblazing elder statesman of country music. In his younger days, however, the "Walk the Line" singer had developed quite the reputation for hell-raising — something that once barred him from Nashville's most important stage.

In an interview with rolling stone, Cash has been a member of the Opry for over a decade when he was asked to perform at the Opry’s home, the famed Ryman Auditorium, it was 1965. This was as time in Johnny Cash’s life where his hell raising was winning the race in his life, he had been arrested for public drunkenness just a few months earlier.
So there he is on stage when the microphone starts giving him some trouble and I know what a pain in the ass that is as you can’t really do anything but stand there and hope someone in the audio team is able to figure out what is going on as you just stand there.
Well Johnny wasn’t having any of that and he just let it all hang out and proceeded to use the microphone stand to smash all the foot lights. I am sure he freaked out all the people in the front row, needless to say he was promptly banned from performing at the Opry after that, of course they did it more nicely then Johnny did with the footlights and simply told him that the Opry couldn’t use him anymore.
He said later that night he went out and really put one on and ended up with his third broken nose.
Lets note that he was eventually allowed to return to the opry, I mean how could you not this is the man in black, a country legend.
