In 1960, Johnny Cash and Johnny Horton wrote a song called "The Girl In Saskatoon". Sources say the song was released as early as January 1 of 1960, March 24th 1960, and as late as December 26th 1960.
This song tells the story of an individual, overwhelmed by his love for a girl in Saskatchewan(Saskatoon), Canada. Willing to freeze and burn for this girl, he begins his journey north for The Girl In Saskatoon. Upon his long awaited arrival, holding his love tightly in his arms, he forgets the troubles of his journey when he realizes it no longer matters. He has achieved his end goal, fulfilling the gap in his heart, and his hands, with The Girl In Saskatoon.

In 1961, Johnny Cash performed in Saskatoon for a live audience that can be confirmed in an appearance with Joni Mitchell in 1971. He chose Alex Wiwcharuk to be the The Girl In Saskatoon. A beauty queen. The photos provided are a few of the only photos taken where he performed The Girl In Saskatoon live. There was an audio recording available, but was since deleted.

Until 1962, The Girl In Saskatoon became one of his closing songs. March 18th 1960 for example in Winnipeg, Canada.
Alex Wiwcharuk was murdered in 1962. When Johnny found out, it's said that he vowed to to never sing it again.
