Back in 1970, Roger Ebert saw an unknown John Prine playing in the Fifth Peg Folk Club in Chicago and was blown away. I tell the story of how this lead to John Prine's first ever press and how that lead to him getting on the Studs Terkel radio show. I also talk about how his friend, Steve Goodman convinced Kris Kristofferson to come see Prine play live, which lead to Kristofferson introducing Prine to the people who would sign him to Atlantic Records. All of this lead to John Prine's first record. In my opinion, it's one of the greatest debut albums of all time.
