“THE SUN STORY” SUN 6641 180
The SUN STORY is the story of a brash new sound born in the Southern States of the U.S.A. during the early 50’s from the fusion of two established ethnic musical forms, Country and Western and Rhythm and Blues, laced with a little smooth Pop music.
It is the story of the growth of Memphis as a major world recording center. It is the story of many singers, engineers, producers, and publicity men, some successful but most of them obscure and it is one of experiment and innovation and of commercial success.
About all, however, the Sun story is the story of Sun label president Sam Philips, the founder of the music industry in Memphis and first mentor of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Charlie Rick, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ike Turner and many more.
The music of the major artists has been covered on other albums and it is to the lesser-known exponents of blues, country and rock that this album is devoted. Their music reflects the changing music scene in both Memphis and the entire U.S.A. during the seventeen years of activity of the Sun label.
This is an ARCHIVE project and therefore no infringement is intended.
