JD MYERS
"IN TOO DEEP"
written by JD Myers & Michael Woody
From the forthcoming country album produced by JD Myers, Rusty McFarland & Barry Beckett
Some of you may know this song because it appeared on my second album "HARD TIMES" (2004). What you likely didn't know is that Michael Woody and I wrote it in May of 1995, and a week or two later I recorded a really strong demo of it.
After then label President/Producer/former TCB Band Member (ELVIS PRESLEY) Tony Brown was unable to sign me to MCA Records, he did his best to get two of their artists to record it. It stayed on hold for George Strait for nearly two years before Tony ended up cutting it on Chely Wright.
Producer Gregg Brown (Travis Tritt/Waylon Jennings) recorded a master version on me in Sept 1995 but that project was abandoned. In March of 1997, legendary Muscle Shoals "Swamper", CMA Musician of The Year and legendary producer Barry Beckett (Hank Jr, Bob Dylan) recorded what I believe is the best version of the song for my Asylum Records debut album "LIKE A TRAIN" actually in the same studio on the same week as Tony cut it on Chely.
By 1997 with Strait not having recorded it, I honestly at that point wanted to keep it for myself but Asylum seemed to remove the songs that were the most country from my album. Then Chely's cut never was released either.
The version finally released on my second album in 2004 was the original 1995 demo with the piano tracks replaced and with several lines re-sang by me nine years after doing the original vocal.
When I started playing in TX in 2019, my friend Rob Dixon encouraged me to start playing the song live as I never had done in the past. Anyway, now that it is part of my shows, TX audiences have responded well, and I believe I am FINALLY delivering the song as it was meant to be done, I felt that should re-release it.
So my next album will feature an all new version of "IN TOO DEEP"!
I had a blast on my friend Elio's show, "Live From The Shop". As he coined the name, "The Power Trio" was in full effect!
JD Myers - Electric Guitar
Elio Giordano - Upright Bass
Gregg Lohman - Drums
