In US news and current events today, country music has long been associated with an overwhelmingly white audience that is not accustomed to change. However, a new wave of Black country music singers, Black country music artists, and Black country music stars, not to mention crossover stars like Lil Nas X, are taking the scene by story and reminding Country music fans of the true history of Country music and the real Country music origins. Mickey Guyton, Black Like Me singer, and Rhiannon Giddens are among the two most exciting Black Country musicians in the world today, and in this interview, they reveal that, like so much of pop music, Country music is derived from Black culture and Black musicians. As Black Lives Matter continues to raise awareness, we should also look to Black culture and understand how so much of American culture is derived from Black artists.
