The Highwayman's Hitch is also known as the Highwayman's Cutaway.

Having researched this knot a little, it would appear that this knot is used by sailors also. This knot is very simple to tie and with one tug the knot is instantly released.

The Highwayman's hitch it a great knot for tying things up when you need a quick release. Maybe this is why Dick Turpin rather liked this particular knot.

Caution: It is advised that the Highwayman's Hitch be used as a temporary hitch for not critical loads. This knot can too easily come undone.
