Highwayman's Hitch (also known as "draw hitch", quick release knot, and others) is a quick release knot that is perfect for applications when you may want to release the rope from the hard-point quickly. With a little practice, it is quick and easy to tie. I use it to attach the tail (both strands of rope) of a flogging cuff tied to a wrist, or a prusik shackle tied to an ankle, to a ring or bedpost. In the event of an emergency, a quick tug releases the rope completely.

Note that I tie this tie in a different manner than is normally taught. It results in the exact same knot, but it is easier to tie when there is a bit of tension on the working end of the line and your are working with two strands of rope instead of one.

This tie is NOT appropriate for any level of suspension!

I teach it in: Cazar's Rope 101 Class.

I have created these videos so that my students can review and practice the ties that they learned in my class.

I did not create this tie. I've seen it many other places. It's just a handy tie to know, and an easy beginner tie.
