Demo recording by Antonio J. Higgins

The lyrics to this song were from an anonymous 1919 publication of a poem entitled "Waynoka Sweet-Waters." It was recently rediscovered by the Waynoka Historical Society. After getting in contact with them, I composed the melody and produced this demo recording.

Waynoka Sweet-waters, by Anonymous (1919)

1. There’s a town [that] I know, where the sweet waters flow,
Not far from the Cimarron River;
Where the sand dunes drift and the gyp hills lift
Our thoughts to the Bountiful Giver.
Where the wildflowers grow and the sweet waters flow,
There’s a town in Oklahoma;
It is known to fame by its Indian Name
Of Waynoka, Waynoka, Waynoka.

2. The town grows so fast, that the trains running past,
Change their time just an hour every day;
Not a store vacant, nor a house to rent,
That’s the kind of town to live in, say!
If you want to come, and build up a home,
In a town with a future to it,
To the Boosters belong, Hurry up, come along,
To Waynoka, Waynoka, Waynoka.

3. There’s a school [that] I know, where I love to go,
Where we use every flying minute;
Where the Golden rule runs this modern school
And the students are graded by merit.
There’s a school that I know, and I love it so,
‘Tis the best in Oklahoma;
You should buy a home, get your folks and come,
To Waynoka, Waynoka, Waynoka.
