(9 Apr 2019) GARTH BROOKS, TRISHA YEARWOOD AND FELLOW COUNTRY STARS RECALL THE FIRST TIME THEY HEARD THEMSELVES ON THE RADIO
"Any artist that tells you they don't like hearing themselves on the radio is telling you a lie."
That's according to Garth Brooks.
"It's always new, it's always fabulous, but sure, I was in my old truck on I-40 (Interstate 40) there in Nashville.  I heard it, as soon as it was over, I clicked over to the other station and it was in the solo of it, first time, so I got to hear it one and a half times the first time I ever heard it and it was awesome and it never gets old," he says.
His wife and fellow country music icon, Trisha Yearwood, first heard one of her own records while driving along Hillsboro Road in Nashville.
"I rolled down all the windows in my car.  I think I wanted everybody and was driving by to hear it as well," she said.
Jordan Davis was keen to let everyone in earshot know that "he wrote that song" the first time he heard one of his records on the radio.
"We were in Houston, Texas. We were outside of a Sprouts parking lot so that was the first time," remembers Davis.  "You know, I've heard it before - like, when I knew it was going to come on - but you know, the first time you're not expecting it, so you start, you know, hearing your song, that was pretty cool."
Russell Dickerson describes his first time as "a big milestone."
"I was like, 'I know that guitar solo.'  I played that guitar solo and so it was just one of those crazy experiences to just hear that for the first time," he said.
Dylan Scott's first experience was six or seven years ago.
"I was in Tennessee, riding down the interstate in this little bitty small town and they just so happened to play my song and I wasn't even listening for like, myself - I was just listening to the radio.  I was like, 'You've got to be kidding me right now,' so it was really cool," recalls Scott.
Good thing he wasn't alone.
"No, I had a buddy with me, and I was like, we were actually talking, so we got halfway through the song before we realized, like, 'This is me,' and so I had to turn it up, like, 'Dude, check this out!'  So it was cool," he added.
