Preview of the the 2023 Etape du Tour climb, the Col de la Ramaz. In detail, we climb the 5th summit of the 2023 Etape du Tour.
Earlier in the Summer I rode the Col de la Ramaz John Taylor from @Mont Blanc Guides long before we knew that it would feature in the Etape du Tour 2023. This is a detailed look at the climb breaking it down into 4 sections. The Col de la Ramaz is a 14km Hors Catergorie climb although in the 2023 Tour de France it is marked as a 1st catergory climb. Its the 4th time the Col de la Ramaz has featured in the Tour de France will be the 4th time it has featured in the Tour de France. Most recently in the 2010 and 2016 Tour de France having only premiered in 2003. In the 2023 L'Etape du Tour and the Tour de France it will feature in the Annemasse to Morzine stage and will be followed by the Col de Joux Plane.
It's a personal favorite climb of mine in the Mont Blanc Region. Its close to the Col de Joux Plane and can be included in a very challenging loop over both the Col de la Ramaz, the Col de L'encrenaz and the Col de Joux Plane.
As we continue to focus on the Etape du Tour 2023 from Annemasse to Morzine we will add more content to help prepare you for the Etape as we head towards 2023 and the event in July.
The Col de la Ramaz can be relatively traffic free most days. With stunning views of Mont Blanc, across the Giffre Valley, its a truly epic climb.
The Etape du Tour 2023 climbs the Col de la Ramaz from Mieussy on the West side to the summit of the Col de la Ramaz at 1619M. The climb is 14km with a 960M climb at an average 7%.
