Live at The Netherlands, "When I loved her" CD The hits of Kris Kristofferson [2004]
Dick van Altena (Oosterhout, 1957) is a Dutch singer, guitarist and songwriter. Dick Van Altena composes from country song to children's song and was also involved with country group Major Dundee between 1977 and 2005.
An album by Kris Kristofferson provided Dick Van Altena with a whole series of self-written songs. He is responsible for many songs by Henk Wijngaard (Hé Suzie, originally written for Arne Jansen), Mooi Wark and Toni Willé from Pussycat. His song "It turned out to be you" from 1990 has been covered many more times. In between his work with Major Dundee he has made three solo albums. Dick Van Altena lives off the royalties and his performances as a singer-songwriter. In 2014 Johan Derksen visited him for his musical road trip, the RTL series Derksen on the Road. Dick Van Altena was knighted in the Order of Oranje Nassau on 7 October 2017 for his services in music.
From 1984 Dick van Altena also releases records under his own name. For "Diesel Cowboy" he is assisted by a number of ex-members of The Walkers: guitarist Rene Innemee and pianist Conny Peters "Minstrel man" from 1988 was even recorded in Nashville and produced by Don King.
