Dick van Altena (Oosterhout, 1957) is a Dutch singer, guitarist and songwriter. Van Altena composes from country songs to children's songs and was also involved with country group Major Dundee between 1977 and 2005.
An album by Kris Kristofferson provided Dick Van Altena with a whole series of self-written songs. He is responsible for many songs by Henk Wijngaard ("Hé Suzie", originally written for Arne Jansen), Mooi Wark and Toni Willé of Pussycat. His 1990 song "It turned out to be you" has been covered many times. In between his work with Major Dundee he has made several solo albums. Van Altena lives off the royalties and from his performances as a singer-songwriter. In 2014 Johan Derksen visited him for his musical road trip, the RTL series Derksen on the Road. On October 7, 2017, Van Altena was knighted in the Order of Oranje Nassau for his achievements in music.
