Carrie Underwood fans took to Twitter on to complain after Garth Brooks claimed the award for Entertainer of the Year, for the seventh time, at the Country Music Association Awards Wednesday.

A number of fans said that the 36-year-old singer should have claimed the honors at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena coming off a triumphant year with her album Cry Pretty, and its accompanying tour with an all-female roster.

The Grammy-winning country songstress was the only woman nominated in the category - against Brooks, Keith Urban, Chris Stapleton and Eric Church - and would have been the first woman to take home the prize since Taylor Swift in 2011.

Fans on social media said that CMA unwisely chose the Friends in Low Places singer for his past, as Underwood is the present and future of the genre.

'So Carrie Underwood wrote, performed, & produced an album while experiencing tremendous grief following MULTIPLE miscarriages, but Garth Brooks wins EOTY because he’s... nostalgic???' one user wrote. 'What a flippin’ JOKE.'

Said another fan: 'My biggest pet peeve is when Garth Brooks wins Entertainer of the Year. Carrie Underwood was the GOAT out of all nominees, but honestly they were all robbed. Garth did 12 shows in 2019. I am confusion.'

Another noted that Brooks 'only won because his name is Garth Brooks,' and that Underwood should not let the slight go unanswered.

'I hope she never hosts the CMA’s again,' the user tweeted. 'They use her year after year for ratings but never give her recognition. 

'Carrie Underwood deserves better. And that is my completely unbiased opinion.'

In spite of the snub, the evening was a relative success for the Little Toy Guns singer, who was a co-host with Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, and belted out a
