(9 Nov 2017) AT CMAS, KEITH URBAN TALKS NEW 'FEMALE' SONG AND GARTH BROOKS SAYS COUNTRY MUSIC 'INVINCIBLE'
Country music's finest came out on Wednesday night (8 NOVEMBER) at the 51st annual Country Music Awards in Nashville.
Performer and CMA winner for Single of the Year, Keith Urban, talked about his new song "Female," inspired by the recent sexual assault cases taking over Hollywood.
"There's a lot of facets in the song. I think particularly the chorus of the song is absolute pure celebration of female - it's beautiful Urban said. "I heard the song more as a soul gospel, spiritual mantra."
Urban's wife Nicole Kidman makes an appearance on the track.
"She is on there. With Nicolle Galyon who also wrote the song," said Urban. "It was nice and very personal to blend these girls into the song because it just felt very, very right and it's what the song means to me."
Country music icon Garth Brooks called the country music community "invincible" after the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival last month.
"Country music has had a year, ok? How hard it is depends on all of us, right? And this group pulls together man. I'm so proud of us," he said. "Get ready for the opening number - you're going to cry like a baby, but it's going to set the tone for the whole night - that we are family, we are invincible and always have been and always will be. So, I feel lucky to be part of this group."
Matthew Ramsey of Old Dominion added that since the Vegas shooting, things haven't dramatically changed.
"I mean the first couple of show back were a little scarier and felt a little odd. But you know, the security in the venues - everybody seems to be on top of it and we haven't really changed anything," Ramsey said.
